Apostille for Immigration Applications

The Department of State issues a certificate called an apostille or a Certificate of Authentication. This is attached to a public document issued in New York State and signed by a notary, county clerk or state official. The type of document and the country in which the document will be used determines whether an apostille or Certificate of Authentication is needed.
